Died peacefully on Sat. Nov. 21, 2004. Age 79 years. Bill was born on November 14, 1925 in Pittsburg, PA. He spent much of early life in White Plaines, NY. After his graduation from White Plaines High School in June of 1944 Bill joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in the final months of WWII and saw combat in Okinawa before the surrender of Japan. After the war Bill was stationed in Peking and Beijing, China for a year. He received an honorable discharge in August of 1946. After his military service Bill attended the University of Wisconsin where he received his B.S. in economics and was involved in track and was the trainer for the crew team. He spent the summer of 1949 and much of 1950 in Heidelberg Germany on a Fulbright Scholarship. In 1951 Bill worked in New York City for American Express and was assigned to oversee offices at military bases in Japan. Before deciding on a teaching career Bill worked for Lufthansa in sales. After earning a teaching certificate for Columbia University he taught at various high schools in Long Island, NY. In 1970 Bill returned to Milwaukee and taught social studies at Bay View High School until his retirement in 1985. Upon retiring Bill had his "Dream Home" built in Bay View and continued to live an active life of travel and education. Bill volunteered his time to the Better Business Bureau, the election commission and Friendship Force. Two custom built cars and a 32 foot cabin cruiser helped Bill entertain friends. He also enjoined entertaining at his home most notably for the annual scholarship party and for Halloween. In 1997 Bill suffered an accident where the moped he was riding was hit by a semi-truck. He spent four months in the hospital and in rehabilitation. With the help of devoted care giver Kathy DeMarinis, Bill maintained an active life. There were many that benefited from Bill's devotion of time and generosity such as The Skylight Board, Unity Ev. Lutheran Church, the International Institute, Bay View High School and several foster children of his caregiver have found employment and assistance. Bill is survived by his dear friends that cared for him; Tom Landers Kathy DeMarinis, Donny Macklin, Kevin Hamaker, Chad Johnson, Wayne Cooper, Dan Jankowski and Andre Navarre. Funeral Services will take place on WEDNESAY at 7 PM at UNITY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1025 East Oklahoma Ave. There will be visitation at the church from 6 PM. until the time of service. Bill will be laid to rest at a private ceremony in The Halls of History at Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the charity of one's choice that supports the arts, education or the well being of young people. That would most honor Bill's life.
