Wendy Horton found peace on August 13, 2026.
Wendy was a remarkable woman whose intelligence, quick wit, and unmistakable sense of humor left an impression on everyone who knew her. She had a way of lighting up a room, making people laugh, and bringing an energy that was uniquely her own. She was incredibly hardworking, a fiercely loyal friend, and, above all, a wonderful and devoted mother.
Wendy earned her master's degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and went on to build an accomplished career in the nonprofit and community foundation world. She served as Chief Financial Officer of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and became nationally recognized and respected in the field for her expertise as a consultant to community foundations.
Outside of work, Wendy found happiness in the things she loved most. She was an avid gardener and bird watcher and had a lifelong love of dogs, with a particularly special place in her heart for Australian Shepherds.
Tragically, Wendy was diagnosed with a form of dementia at a far younger age than anyone should have to face. After working incredibly hard throughout her life and building a career she could be proud of, she never truly had the opportunity to enjoy the retirement she had earned. The disease gradually took away many of the things that had defined her life, but it never completely erased the woman behind it. With the support of her friends and family, Wendy faced the final 12 years of her life with remarkable optimism and resilience. It was an unfair battle that she did not deserve, but she continued to fight it with the same strength that had carried her throughout her life.
Wendy is survived by her son, Alex Segal; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Segal; and her sister, Kelly (Eric) Quade. She is also survived by her dear friend Sharon Loxton. Further survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Jackie Horton; grandparents Estee and Billy Wolters.
Wendy was one of a kind - brilliant, funny, hardworking, loving, and entirely herself. Her wit and personality will be deeply missed by the family, friends, colleagues, and countless others whose lives she touched.
Memorial Visitation at the Funeral Home on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Memorial Service to begin at 1:00 PM.
