Susan Jean Kohnke, aged 69, transitioned to the warmth and the light on January 24th, 2022. Susan was born January 2nd, 1953 in Milwaukee, WI to Irwin and Mavis Jean Cornfield.
Susan is survived by her loving fiancé' Greg Hlavenka, her son Jason Kohnke and his wife Brett, her grandchildren Emma and Lauren, sister Judy Cornfield and son Michael Cornfield and his wife Ashley and their children Carter and Claire , sister Kathy Cornfield her husband Rick, brother Michael Lew (predeceased) and his wife Julie.
Susan was drawn to Motown and the soulful music of the 60's and 70's. Music remained a huge part of her life and served as the soundtrack to life's ups and downs.
She married young and gave birth to her only child, Jason, in 1972. After a divorce, she worked her way up to executive secretary for some of the largest companies in Milwaukee. She would joke, "during golf season, it was the secretaries who really ran the company". Later in life, she worked for organizations that helped the under-privileged.
Susan cared more about people than things and was lucky enough to maintain lasting friendships with Debbie, Sandy and Jody.
Animals were an enduring part of her life and she adopted rescue dogs Buddy and Aggie later in life.
Although Susan was in debilitating pain over the last couple years, she became an inspiration to her family, friends and complete strangers by showing us all the meaning of grace through strength.
