Obituary

Susan A. Best

(nee Rauwald) Found Eternal Peace surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Age 80 years. Beloved wife of the late Andrew Frank Best. Loving mother of Cheryl Smukowski, Renee (Jay) Paniagua, Anjanette "Angel" (Ken) Krug, Timothy (Delida) Best, Denise (Tom) Mikula and the late Teresa Best. Cherished G-Ma of Joshua Pelzek and Brittney (Aaron) Whitney; Jake (Jordan) Paniagua, Alex (Lauren) Paniagua and Paige Paniagua; Bradley Urban; Thomas Mikula Jr., Brett Mikula, Cody Mikula and Jesse Mikula. Dear great-grandma of Felicity, Lulu, Hadleigh, Hayden, Harlow and Bryant. Preceded in death by her parents John and Louella Rauwald and brother Paul (Laurel) Rauwald and sister Rita (Les) Crook. Susan is also survived by nieces, nephews, other family member and friends.

Susan was born in Madison, Wisconsin but grew up in Milwaukee. She attended Holy Angels Academy for high school. After raising her six children, she went back to school where she received her bachelor's degree at Lakeland college in 1988 with high honors in accounting and business administration. She then retired from Milwaukee County Treasurers Office after many years of service.

Some of Susan's earliest hobbies were bowling, playing cards, crocheting, dancing, and listening to Elvis. Although she didn't see him in concert, it didn't stop her from being Elvis' number one fan.

Her favorite color was purple and loved anything with dragonflies. Her sense of fashion was always apparent, especially as she knew how to accessorize all her outfits with her favorite pieces of jewelry and would never say no to a shopping trip.

On almost any day, you could find her in the kitchen cooking up one of her favorite dishes and would enjoy a glass of wine with her family or friends.

She loved reading, puzzles, crosswords, and of course, singing karaoke. Susan was also a lifelong lover of animals, and was faithfully accompanied by her cat, Brody, during her final years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Susan's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeast Wisconsin Chapter or Jodi Lou Lung Cancer Foundation Inc.
