Obituary

Steve grew up in Barrington, Illinois and attended Barrington High School. There he was a participant in the Electronics, Cross Country, and Golf Clubs. Following his graduation in 1965, he attended Harper College and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was immediately discharged upon his military physical due to a heart condition. Steve then attended the Milwaukee School of Broadcasting and earned his degree in Communication. Steve moved to the Milwaukee area after graduation and began his radio career at WAWA, an all black radio station, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He was an on-air personality working the graveyard shift. Steve was the only white employee in the entire organization and was known as the White Soul Brother. Steve built his career as both an on-air personality and Program Director for several radio stations in the greater Milwaukee area, including WZMF, WJMR and WOKY. In addition to his career in Milwaukee, Steve was also employed by a large Chicago radio station, WJJD, as Program Director. Steves radio career was larger than life. He met and interviewed several personalities including Andy Griffith, Mario Andretti, and Bob Uecker, to name a few. If that wasnt enough, he also owned and operated Talent Central during the 70s and 80s, a very successful talent agency in Milwaukee. As if being involved in the high pressured world of radio programming wasnt enough, Steve pursued and obtained his pilot license and gained over 300 hours of time as pilot-in-command. Steve was also a race car driver for one of his radio stations, enjoyed boating and cruising the Wolf River and Lake Winnebago. A side note, Steve was probably one of the biggest Chicago Bears fans and reveled wearing his Chicago Bear attire into local Milwaukee establishments. Following a heart attack in 1990, Steve left his radio career behind and followed in his fathers footsteps. Steve worked as an apprentice electrician for several years and then obtained his Union Electrician card. He then pursued and obtained the status of Master Electrician in the State of Wisconsin and became a certified State of Wisconsin Electrical Inspector. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Reuben & Helen Jahnholtz, his sister H. Patricia (Jahnholtz) Szymanski, his cousin Phil Simek and his wife Lynn Stevens. Steve is survived by his nephew Michael J. Szymanski of Illinois, his niece Jeannie (Szymanski) Peterson of Illinois, and his cousins Barbara (Barbie Simek) Vesper of Illinois, Matt Simek of Oregon, Jan Simek of California and Aimee (Simek) Skingle of Texas. Steves final wishes were for no hoopla and no recognition of his life or his passing; only that his remains be cremated. Steves closest friend, Tom Kohl of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has the instructions to spread Steves ashes at a predetermined location. Donations in Steves remembrance can be made to your favorite charity. This world was, without question, a better place because of Steve. Prasser-Kleczka Funeral Homes South Suburban Chapel 414-282-6080
