Samuel Desnica born 11/13/1926 in West Allis, WI to Milan Desnica from Serb, Lika & Jovanka Kantearov from Velika Kikinda, Banat. Preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Millie and daughter, Jacquie, sisters Ann and Mickie (Vlado). Survived by son Danny (Sandy), daughter Nickie (Bob), son Sammy (Crystal), 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Quit school and enlisted in the Navy during WWII, Nov. 1943. Served onboard 4 Fletcher Class Destroyers: The USS Paul Hamilton DD-590, The USS Bradford DD-545, The USS Heermann DD-532 and The USS Twiggs DD-591 which was sunk via torpedo and kamakazi hit June 16, 1945 off the coast of Okinawa. He received a Presidential Unit Citation, an American Area Campaign Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal w/ 3 Stars, and a Philippine Liberation Campaign Medal w/ 2 Stars. Upon returning from the War, he married his beautiful wife and love of his life, his Mala, Millie Barach. Together they raised 4 beautiful children. He created his own business where he worked long hard hours never complaining, sometimes leaving before the sun came up and getting home after it went down. He and his Mala were very active in their church community often helping run fundraisers. He could always be found digging in his many flower gardens. A large man with a large heart who loved life and the little things. He is a man who touched many hearts with his smiling personality and will be missed.
