Hefty, Roger Thomas Roger was born December 28, 1925 in New Glarus, Wisconsin. He was the only child of Thomas A. and Bertha (nee Bruni) Hefty. He graduated from New Glarus High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in North Africa. He was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1947, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a B.S. degree (food technology) in 1951. While at Madison, he met his future wife, Nancy Walters. They married in 1952. Roger and Nancy had three children. Nancy died in 2002. Roger worked in the food packaging industry for his entire career, retiring in 1992. He was a member of TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry) and the Society of Plastic Engineers. Once retired, he served as a consultant on behalf of the International Executive Service Corps and went on assignments in Tunisia, Mexico, Bulgaria and Russia. His naval service, where he was an aerographer's mate, started his life-long interest in photography and civilian aviation. He was an accomplished amateur photographer and long-time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He was an avid golfer, as was Nancy. Since 1978, Roger lived in Greenfield until moving to the Village at Manor Park, in West Allis, in 2009. He was an active member of the Greendale Community Church (UCC). Roger was a lifelong fan and avid supporter of UW Badger football and the Green Bay Packers. Roger is survived by his three children, Tom (Rita), Scott (Julie) and Sara Rogers, and four grandchildren. Visitation at the Funeral Home Tuesday, November 16, 2012, 5:30-6:30 PM.
