Passed into eternal life on July 6, 2017 at the age of 81. Born to Norma L. (nee Larson) and John L. Knar, Sr. on January 17, 1936 in Stanley, Wisconsin, Dick and his older brother Jack, (John L. Knar, Jr.) enjoyed a small-town childhood. Dick was a 1958 graduate of UW-Eau Claire and earned his Masters degree from Rutgers University. Dick and Renee D. Knar, (nee Hestekind), his bride of 57 years, were married on July 2, 1960 in Marshfield, Wisconsin. They resided in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin for 30 years where they raised their 7 children: Karen (James) Blackburn, Kathleen (Peter) Ryan, Richard (Theresa) Knar, Jr., Deanne Knar (Gregory Doyle), Constance (Daniel) Wuest, Susan Knar, and Cheryl (Chuck) Berry. He is further survived by grandchildren: Samantha, Alexandra, Jacob, Courtney, James, Christian, Caden, Zachary, Samuel, Maxwell, Antonette, Richard III, Robert, Gabrielle, Bradley, Brittany, Alexander, Jonathan, Benjamin, Dominic, Ashley, Charlie, Natalie, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Dick is known to many as Coach or Professor due to his countless years as a Mathematics teacher and a basketball, baseball, and football coach. University of Wisconsin - Fond du Lacs basketball court bears his name - an honor bestowed upon him in 2010 - for his years as the head basketball coach - his side job to his role as Calculus professor. He served the Fond du Lac community as president of the school board and president of Little League baseball. He was also instrumental in reviving the Fondy Legion baseball program. His students and athletes are many - alumni of Marquette High School, Don Bosco High School (now Thomas More), Wisconsin Rapids Assumption High School, Niles West High School, Marian University (Fond du Lac), and UW-Fond du Lac.
Visitation at the Funeral Home on Monday July 10, 2017 from 4-8PM and also Tuesday from 10-11AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 3635 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., St. Francis. Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Interment on Wednesday at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire, WI at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be greatly appreciated.
