Fr. Frederick was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1956 from Saint Francis Seminary. His ministries included serving as an Assistant at Holy Angels Parish, St. Veronica, and St. Anne in Milwaukee and St. Bernard in Wauwatosa. On February 20, 1979 Fr. Frederick returned to St. Veronica Parish as the administrator of the pastoral team. Fr. Joe faithfully served St. Veronica Parish until his retirement on June 30, 1999. He was deeply loved and respected by the parish community and fellow priests that served along side of him. St. Veronica Parish honored Fr. Joe by naming the gymnasium and multi-use facility after him. In retirement, Fr. Joe served as a substitute priest at parishes from Fox Point to Racine.
Fr. Joe will be remembered for his energy, administrative skill, dynamic homilies and beaming smile. He made a point to spend time with his family at Plum Lake, Lake Arrowhead, Boulder CO, Corpus Christi, TX, and Charleston, SC. Although he never owned a computer or cell phone, somehow he always remained connected to friends and family. Fr. Joe was an avid sports fan, serving as a scout for the Milwaukee Braves, was a dedicated fan of the Green Bay Packers and was a long-time Marquette Basketball season ticket holder. He bowled for years on the St. Veronica's team.
The Frederick family would also like to thank those who helped care for Fr. Joe, including Dr. James Mazzula and Dr. Donald Schmidt and their staffs. Their skillful coordination ensured Fr. Joe's quality of life. The Family is especially grateful to Linda and Don Poff and Fr. Joe's other dedicated caregivers Carla, Darlene and Susan.
If desired, memorials in Fr. Frederick's name may be made to St. Veronica Church. Prasser-Kleczka Bay View Chapel 414-483-2322
