Obituary

Ralph V. Phillips Jr. was born on October 31, 1959, and as it turns out, he was an absolute treat. Ralph passed peacefully at home on August 29, 2024 after a valiant battle with cancer in the presence of his loving wife of nearly 45 years, Jannelda "Jay", (nee Lied) whom he decided he wanted to marry on the very day they met.

Ralph was a graduate of St. Francis High School ('77) and thrived in a 44-year career at Briggs and Stratton, which both challenged him and fulfilled his passion for solving puzzles.

However, his favorite job in life was always Dad, and later grandpa.

He will be profoundly missed by his daughters, Jennifer (Phillips-Kubek) and Kaitlin (Much); sons-in-law, Josh and Kyle; his special grandpup, Alma; and his beloved granddaughter, Bailey. Ralph was filled with joy knowing his next grandchild is set to arrive this winter.

He is also survived by his mother, Arlene Phillips; sisters, Sharon Helenius and Cindy (Scott) Schumann; brothers, Robert (Linda) and Rory; and many others who will deeply miss him.

In heaven, Ralph is greeted by too many of his family and friends, who will surely welcome his humor and competitive flair to their cribbage game. Those waiting to greet him include his father, Ralph Sr.; sister, Shirley; brother, Rick; brother-in-law, Gary Helenius; nephew, Joel Schumann; and many others whose lives he touched during his time here on earth.

Ralph was a master gardener, an artistic woodworker, and loved a good puzzle. He cherished summer concerts, bonfires, card games, and family traditions. His happiest place was "Up North," where hunting and fishing were surpassed only by the great company he kept.

Ralph was known for his honesty, bluntness, and incredible intelligence. He always said, "Sit back and watch people; they will show you who they are."

We were all so lucky to have a front-row seat to witness him live a beautiful life.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Reiman Center for their care and guidance through the entire cancer journey and to the staff of AccentCare Hospice for walking them through his final weeks.
