Chavez, Peter A.
August 7, 1936 - June 12, 2023
Peter Arthur "Artie" Chavez, 86, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin passed away peacefully in the early morning of Monday, June 12, 2023 at Aurora St. Luke's South Shore Hospital after a very brief illness, following a period of declining health.
He was born in 1936 to Salvador and Mercedes Chavez in Milwaukee, and lived in his beloved Bay View neighborhood his entire life. He attended Mound Street Elementary School and Boys' Tech High School. He was employed nearly his entire working career at Milwaukee Valve Company and retired as an assembler. He is preceded in death by his close friend and co-worker at Milwaukee Valve, Jerry Kukowski, and lifelong best friends from his childhood Boy Scout days, Jose "Lito" Paniagua, and Bob Martinez. Family members who preceded Peter in death are his parents Salvador and Mercedes, sisters Eloisa "Loisa" Laehn, Ramona Chavez, Carmen Plumidis, and Maria "Chita" Gonzalez; brothers Salvador "Sal" Chavez, and John Chavez.
He is survived by Linda (nee Galvan), his loving wife of 60 years, his brother Roy "Vets" Chavez and his sister Mercedes "Mercy" Chavez. Peter is also survived by his children Arthur (Faith) Chavez, Diana Chavez, Laura (Kurt) Knoll, Christine (Kurt) Mazzoni, Steven (the late Kendra) Chavez and Matthew (Oliver Johnson) Chavez. Peter loved his family and friends, and made new friends wherever he went along the course of his life. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kurstin, Rayna, Mark, Kurtis, Cameron, Lydia, Alex, and his great-grandson Axel.
Peter enjoyed occasionally conjuring up creative meals with whatever odds and ends were in the refrigerator or cupboard, and was fond of old-world European and regional foods. After retirement he became an avid walker, exploring trails in all corners of Milwaukee's Southside. He enjoyed getting up early in the morning and after his walks would grab a coffee and read the newspaper. Peter also had a sharp wit and an infectious sense of humor until the very last day of his life. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. TTYL, Dad!
