Obituary

Sammy found peace from his sudden terminal illness on August 27, 2022, age 67 years. He is now sharing Eternal Life with his late wife, Lois;parents and his older sister. Sammy is preceded in death by his wife Lois (Murray) McHugh; parents, William L. McHugh and Marie E. (Noid) McHugh, and his sister, Linda Marie McHugh. Sammy is survived by his sister Kathleen (Jim) Melvin; brother Matthew (Joanne) McHugh; brother Shawn (Patty) McHugh; step-daughters, Christine and Colleen Lewis; granddaughter Sarah (Merlin) Amaya;grandson, Jimmy Stefanovich; great-granddaughters Annalise Amaya and Maya Stefanovich. Sammy is further survived nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and co-workers, most recently Beaudry Services and Lois's Derby. Thank you to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for the excellent care as well as Linden Grove Rehab, Mukwonago, and Aurora At Home Zilber Hospice, Wauwatosa. Sammy's gear head mechanic career began in West Allis working at Clark gas station. He also worked at Milwaukee Coil Spring, Milwaukee; he worked as a truck driver for Jet Repair Services, Milwaukee; Sammy worked in R&D and drove truck for Excalibur, West Allis; he also worked at Parking Lines, West Allis. For over 30 years, Sammy worked as a shop manager at Beaudry Services, Waukesha. Sammy and his late wife Lois owned and operated Lois's Derby Tavern, West Allis, for several years. Sammy and Lois were introduced by his good buddy Jerry Ehnert at The Derby, where Lois bartended for several years. Sammy and Lois were married 23 years and 4 months when Lois passed away in March 2015. They shared a love for 50's and 60's music, dancing, attending NASCAR races at The Milwaukee Mile Speedway, Sharing laughs and good company with friends and family. Sammy is well known for racing stock cars and hot rods at Great Lakes Dragaway, Union Grove, back in the day. Sammy along with his good buddy Gordy Frank built custom vehicles in his spare time. He was a founding member of the West Allis Auto Club and one of the original Cam Busters Car Club founding members and a Highway 100 cruiser with many different classic cars, including Excalibur cars. Friends and co-workers are invited to attend the Big Walker Memorial Race at Great Lakes Dragway, Union Grove, Sunday September 11,2022 at 12 noon, where Sammy and several racers will be memorialized. Sammy's family will be presented with a plaque honoring his racing days; and a plaque with Sammy's name on it will be placed in the Union Grove race building. Memorial Service at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, 4:30-7:00 PM. Memorial Service at 7:00 PM.
