Found peace on Sunday, April 28, 2013, age 86 years. Loving husband to Shirley E. Nelson (nee Sellhausen). Patriarch and loving father to 10 children, Sharon (Robert) Cech, Sandra (the late James) Schopf, Wayne (Chris) Nelson, Susan Nelson (George Marczewski), Mark Nelson, Rick (Janice) Nelson, Randy Nelson, Shelly (Kris) Sorensen, Todd Nelson and Michael (Diane) Nelson. Dearest brother to Walter Nelson, Betty Recla, and Nancy Luppino. Preceded in death by his sisters, Elsie Alquisa, Linda Timan and his brother, Emil Nelson. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Melvin was a retiree of Pieper Electric after many years of dedicated service, a member of IBEW Local No. 494 and a US Navy veteran serving during World War II.
