Obituary

(Mary) Pamela Still of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away July 23, 2023 after a lengthy illness. She was 77. She is survived by husband Robert Still, daughter Kristine Storti, and sister Kathleen Rippey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert R. Rippey and (Mary) Jeannette Rippey.

Pam grew up in Waukesha, Wisconsin and following her high school graduation, she attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. While in high school, Pam became a member of the AFS (originally the American Field Service Program, now Intercultural Programs/USA), and spent the summer between her junior and senior years living with a family in the Philippines. It was an an eye-opening and exciting experience for her.

While attending UW-Madison, she met her first husband. They moved around the country while he was in the military and eventually settled in Milwaukee. Following their divorce, two new life-changing events happened. She became employed at Marquette University, and met current husband Robert Still, who was also employed at Marquette. The two eventually married on October 4, 1986. Pam worked at Marquette from 1973 to 2011, first as director of the Computer Services Center, and then was hired as an Assistant Registrar, a position she held until retiring. Also, while employed at Marquette, she completed her degree in Theology in 1998, and was the recipient of several honors. She graduated cum laude, became a member of Phi Beta Kappa, was President of both the Committee on Staff and Committee on Administration (as an Assistant Registrar). She enjoyed her time at Marquette where she was well-respected and admired as a diligent worker. Students sought her out for her wisdom and advice and she made many close friends among the academics with whom she worked. Upon retiring, Pam and Rob spent time traveling the country and relaxing at home. They particularly enjoyed spending time in New Mexico where Pam's parents relocated in 1976, and driving to Spooner, Wisconsin nearly every summer for fishing, swimming and relaxing in an old cabin on Big Bass Lake.

Pam was an explorer and especially loved learning about other peoples of the world through seminars, retreats (spiritual and secular), ancient site visits and books. She was a great supporter of higher causes, among them the the International Campaign for Tibet, nature and wilderness programs, and, of course, AFS. And, as friends and family will attest, she was an amazing cook. An invite to one of her dinner parties was coveted.

A private service will be held at the Prasser-Kleczka Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please support Pam's favorite charities, AFS (https://afs.org), International Campaign for Tibet https://savetibet.org, and/or The Nature Conservancy (https://preserve.nature.org).
