In loving memory of Mary Alice Loomis

Greenfield, WI - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Alice Loomis, beloved teacher and cherished member of the community, who left this world on December 16, 2023, at the age of 82. Mary's remarkable journey began on September 24, 1941, in Dodgeville, WI, where she was born to loving parents Ray and Betty Loomis.

After graduating from St. Catherine's High School in Racine, Mary was a novice with the Dominican Sisters, and then pursued her passion for education, earning a Master's Degree, which fueled her successful teaching career spanning over three decades. Mary dedicated her professional life to shaping young minds, leaving an indelible mark on the students she taught in the public school system, particularly the School District of St. Francis.

Beyond her vocation, Mary was a woman of unwavering faith, actively involved in the Dominican Leity. Her commitment to her Catholic faith extended to teaching RCIA at various parishes in Milwaukee, guiding others on their spiritual journey. Mary's compassionate nature also led her to support no-kill cat rescue shelters, where she nurtured her feline companions and gave them a loving home.

Mary's enthusiasm for sports was infectious, as she passionately cheered for her beloved Badgers, Brewers, Packers, and Bucks. Her presence at numerous games created lasting memories and cemented her status as a dedicated and loyal fan.

The love for the outdoors was instilled in Mary by her parents, and she enjoyed spending time in nature, especially at her trailer in Door County, Wisconsin -- this was her special retreat.

Mary will be greatly missed by her surviving family members. She is the sister of Peggy Martin Badger (Mike), Larry Loomis (Bette Thompson), John Loomis (Linda), Chris Strait (Mike), the late Ginny Vandenberg (the late John) and the late Kay Nelson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, other family members and many friends. Her memory will forever be cherished, as they recall countless joyful moments together.

To honor Mary's life, a visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at ST. CHARLES BORROMEO PARISH, 3100 W. Parnell Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53221, from 10AM to 12PM. Mass of Christian Burial to follow, at 12PM. Relatives, friends, and community members are invited to gather and celebrate Mary's legacy with gratitude and love. Following the service, Mary will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Memorial Park, where she will find eternal peace.

Mary's family would like to extend their gratitude to Kristina and the staff of St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care.

Memorials if so desired may be made to St. Croix Hospice or a charity of your choice in Mary's name.

As we say our final goodbyes to Mary, let us remember her infectious laughter, her unwavering kindness, and her steadfast commitment to education and faith. May her soul find eternal rest, and may her legacy continue to inspire us all.
