Passed away Friday November 25, 2016 at the age of 94, at Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Hospital, Milwaukee, WI. Born February 2, 1922 to Joseph and Anna (Grzeszkiewicz) Buerger. Mary served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy in WWII, stationed in San Diego. She attended Marquette University on the GI Bill, attaining a BS in Liberal Arts, then attended St. Louis University achieving a MS in Social Work. Mary's career as a social worker with Milwaukee County ended with her retirement in 1985. Mary was a longtime member of the Go Hiking Club, an amateur photographer, and a world traveler to traditional and exotic places such as Nepal, New Zealand, Poland, the British Isles, Israel, Switzerland, and South America where she enjoyed hiking and local cultures.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law Frank & Mary Ann (Maly) Buerger, sister; Julia Buerger and nephew Joseph F. Buerger. She is survived by her brother Joseph C. Buerger, nieces; Ann Buerger Linden (Vance), Julie Turk (Scott), Marie Loehrke (John), Elizabeth (Paula Wick), Catherine, cousins, grandnieces, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces.
Visitation FRIDAY, December 2, 2016 from 10:30 AM-12:00 Noon at The Church of St. Augustine of Hippo, 2530 South Howell Avenue, Milwaukee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon. Interment and Military Honors to follow St. Adalbert Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Church of St. Augustine of Hippo or St. Ann Center Intergenerational Care are appreciated.
