Mary Ann Fisher was born to eternal life on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Beloved mother two wonderful children, Jon and Sarah Fisher, favored grandmother of Alexandra and Evelyn Fisher, and Zailen Janzen. Cherished sister of Janet (Bob) Doren, Cheryl (Ed, Sr.) Kondracki, and aunt of Ed Kondracki, Jr., Jil Karr, Joseph Doren, and Laura Bohringer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Shirley (nee McAfee) Wood. Mary Ann is further survived by a great deal of lifetime friends and acquaintances with whom she shared many smiles and as much love and laughter as she could give.

Despite being born in New York, Milwaukee was Mary Ann's home, living on the East Side for the past 30 years. She spent her free time volunteering for various events, and organizations around the city. She was deeply involved with Common Ground, advocating for social change and fighting for the rights of the disenfranchised. She volunteered with Common Ground's Forward Scholars program, tutoring elementary school students in reading and writing and was known for the work she did in assisting with the organization of tenants rights around various parts of Milwaukee. Mary Ann also volunteered to act as an election coordinator for both local and federal elections, ensuring many had their voices heard in a safe and dignified manner. An avid lover of the arts, Mary Ann volunteered at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and was involved with the Milwaukee Film Festival as well.

Mary Ann lived a life of service and dedication to what she loved and believed in. She was a longtime member of the First Unitarian Society where she was an usher. She was drawn to its openess and intersectionality. She found a wonderful community within the church and her loss will be felt by the many friends she came to know there. When not living for others, Mary Ann did find some time for herself, she took classes at the Osher Life Long Learning Institute, she was an avid reader, a traveler and most of all, she was a "hardcore" blues fan. From Bali to Sri Lanka, to India, to Rio de Janeiro, Mary Ann saw more of the world than Carmen Sandiego. Days before she passed, Mary Ann was awarded the John Barajas Blues Ambassador Award from the Wisconsin Blues Music Hall of Fame. She frequented the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas until she physically could no longer, and at the end, she enjoyed her own private concert of local artists, Frogwater and John Stanos.

Despite fighting through over 22 years of cancer, Mary Ann lived her life to the fullest. Mary Ann had an eclectic group of friends from all over the country, and she was much loved for her contagious energy and bright personality. Overall she lived a life that many would envy and for those lives that she touched, she will be a shining star shining eternally in everyone's hearts.

Services are pending but will be held at First Unitarian Society in Milwaukee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Common Ground in Mary Ann's name would be much appreciated.
