(Nee Pechousek) Age 96, found peace August 22, 2015. Marie was born August 15, 1919 on Wieland Street in Chicago, the youngest daughter of Otto and Mary (nee Krucek) Pechousek. Marie is survived by her 7 children, Tom (Anne), Mary Margaret (Yves) Melanson, John (Mary), Leah, Joan (Ed) Poletti, Carole (Ricardo), and Ellen Zydzik (Paul), 19 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Marie attended St Michael's School in Lincoln Park and Alvernia High School in Chicago. Her first job was as an office worker at a box-making concern. In 1942, she met Harry, her future husband, at a USO dance. They were married on May 18, 1943, shortly before Harry shipped out to the European Theater. Marie and Harry raised seven children, and she became a working mother during the 1950's. Marie and her family moved from Rawson Avenue in Oak Creek to Oklahoma Avenue in Bay View in 1961. She was a member of Sacred Heart parish for 50 years and proudly served as a president of the Christian Mothers. After her long-time employer died, she took over and ran a tax and bookkeeping company and administered the South Milwaukee Housing Authority for years, until her retirement at age 73. Marie was a stalwart and devoted supporter of her large extended family. She lent money, took care of grandchildren while their parents worked, and offered gentle judgment about their life decisions. Her grandchildren enjoyed many happy Christmases and other holiday family gatherings at Grandma and Grandpa's house. She faithfully cared for Harry in his final years of disability until he died in 2006. Marie was scrupulously independent until a stroke in 2010. She changed her own bedclothes, did her own laundry, and got many of her own meals. With composure and dignity, she enjoyed her final years at Francis House and at Franciscan Villa.
Thanks also to Molly and Nick for their years of grocery-shopping with Grandma, and to her loyal beauty operator, Nancy. Finally, Marie's family extends warmest thanks to the staff at Francis House and Franciscan Villa for their care and compassion over the past 5 years.
