María pasó a la presencia de nuestro Señor el domingo, 20 de agosto, 2023, a la edad de 90 años. María fue la amada esposa del fallecido Leonardo Salgado y fue la madre de 12 hijos e hijas, Alma Delia (su esposo, Moisés), Guillermina (su fallecido esposo Joel), Eloy (su esposa Margarita), Luis (su esposa Martha), Rogelio (su esposa Maria), Margarita (su fallecido esposo Ecliserio), Remigio (su esposa Araceli), Juvenal (su esposa Leticia), Arturo (su esposa Salome), Leonardo, Yeni (su esposo Misael). María también fue la abuela orgullosa de 34 nietos, 49 bisnietos, y 3 tataranietos. Fue hermana de Eluteria, Jovita, Jesus, Alberta and Martina. Tía de muchos sobrinos y sobrinas. María fue precedida por su hija, Mardonia, y sus hermanos: Modesta, Alejandro, Maria, Melquiades y Eladia.

María nació un 8 de diciembre de 1932 en Guerrero, México. Sus padres fueron Agapito Benítez y Margarita Ocampo. María fue una madre devota y la leal compañera de su esposo, Leonardo, hasta su muerte en el 2013. Juntos buscaron una mejor vida para su familia desde sus humildes comienzos en Guerrero (1949), mudándose a Veracruz, México (1966) y por último a Milwaukee en Wisconsin, Estados Unidos (1997). Después de haber migrado a los Estados Unidos, ella trabajó fuera del hogar hasta su jubilación. Con gran orgullo se hizo ciudadana estadounidense en el 2018.

María tuvo muchas habilidades. Se enseñó a si mismo a coser y le gustaba mucho trabajar con la cerámica y con madera. Fue excelente ama de su hogar y tenía un sentido profundo de empoderamiento el cual transmitió a sus hijas y sus nietas. Sus habilidades culinarias le permitieron a toda su familia y amigos disfrutar de sus platos. Su lealtad se manifestó en su sentido de responsabilidad hacia sus padres y sus hermanos.

La familia desea agradecer a todos lo que se involucraron con el cuidado de su salud y extender el más profundo aprecio y un especial agradecimiento para Araceli (su nuera) quien la cuidó en casa durante los últimos 9 años.

Born to Eternal Life on Sunday, August 20, 2023, age 90. Beloved wife of the late Leonardo Salgado. Loving mother of 12 children; Alma Delia (Moises), Guillermina (the late Joel), Eloy (Margarita), Luis (Martha), Rogelio (Maria), Margarita (the late Ecliserio), Remigio (Araceli), Juvenal (Leticia), Arturo (Salome), Leonardo, Yeni (Misael). Proud grandmother to 34 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Dear sister of Eluteria, Jovita, Jesus, Alberta and Martina. Caring aunt to many nieces and nephews. Maria is preceded in death by her daughter, Mardonia, and her siblings; Modesta, Alejandro, Maria, Melquiades and Eladia.

Born December 8, 1932, in Guerrero Mexico to Agapito Benitez and Margarita Ocampo. Maria was a devoted mom and loyal partner to her husband up until his death in 2013. Both creating a better life for their family from their humble beginning in Guerrero, Mexico (1949) to Veracruz, Mexico (1966) to their final residence in Milwaukee, WI (1997). After moving to the United States, she worked outside home fulfilling personal growth until her retirement. With great pride she became a USA citizen in 2018.

Maria was self-taught home seamstress, pottery and wood carving spoon enthusiast. Skilled homemaker with great sense of self-empowerment that transcended to her daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters. Her cooking skills gave her family recipes staples that her whole family and friends enjoyed. Loyal daughter with a sense of duty of care for her parents and siblings.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone that was involved in her care and to her home caregiver for the last nine years Araceli (daughter-in-law).

Maria was a kind friend to many!

Visitation at the Funeral Home THURSDAY, August 24, 2023 from 4:00 P.M.-8 P.M. Additional Visitation on Friday from 11:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon at ST. ADALBERT PARISH 1923 West Becher Street. Milwaukee. Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon. Interment to follow Good Hope Cemetery.
