Bohnaker, Madelyn Louise (nee Smith) Age 94 years, passed away on October 12, 2012 at VITAS Ruth Hospice in Milwaukee, Wisconsin after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer C. Bohnaker, son William C. Bohnaker, her parents Robert J. and Anna Madeline Smith, sister May E. Beasley and brothers Robert, Fred and William Smith. She is survived by daughter Roberta A. (Robert) Beller of Milwaukee, WI and son James P. (Mary) Bohnaker of Leesburg, VA, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, cousins and many nieces and nephews. Madelyn was born in Brighton, MA and raised in Lexington, MA, before relocating to northwestern Indiana with her family. She attended business school in Hammond, IN, worked as a legal secretary and later as a church secretary. She accompanied her husband Wilmer during his Army career following WWII to Europe (Italy and France) and then settled in Griffith, IN. She also resided in Hampton, VA for 38 years prior to returning to the Midwest and Milwaukee several years ago to be with family. Madelyn was an accomplished, self taught artist and exhibited her art, which included paintings, sculpture and wood carvings. The many gifts of her art work shared with family members and friends throughout her life leave us all with lasting memories of her loving and generous spirit. Madelyn was a member of St. Joseph Church, Hampton, VA and later attended the Zablocki VA Medical Center Chapel, Milwaukee. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's and Dementia Association.
