Lucy was born to Martha (nee Farrand) and William Steagall on July 24, 1922. She was raised in Langlade County. As a young woman her goal was to rise from poverty. She moved to Milwaukee after working at several resorts in the Northwoods. She was employed at Cutler Hammer before marrying in 1948. She and her husband, Ralph, who was in the Air Force, lived in California and Texas before settling in Big Bend. Lucy worked for many years as an outspoken supporter of Pro-Life of Wisconsin, and a card carrying member of the Republican Party. At a young age Lucy learned to be frugal. She worked hard in the garden. She canned produce and made jam. She was a talented seamstress. She believed in the power of prayer. The family wishes to thank the staff at Muskego Regency, Linden Grove – New Berlin and Waukesha Memorial Hospital for the care and kindness shown to Lucy these past 4 years. If desired, memorials may be made to St. Clare Catholic Church or Wiscosin Right To Life. She loved ice cream! I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.
