LuAnne received a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Bowling
Green State University, and obtained a Masters Degree in Child
Development from Michigan State University. She retired from
Neighborhood House of Milwaukee as the Director of the Nursery
School with 34 years of service. After retirement, she continued to
work with the Neighborhood House through an Outreach program at
the Indo-Chinese Learning Center where she taught English as a second
language.
LuAnne's desire to discover her own special creative side led her to
weaving classes offered through the Milwaukee Public School system.
After learning the basics, she entered one of her first projects in the
Wisconsin Handweavers, Inc. exhibit and won a ribbon. After that she
was completely hooked on weaving and went on to produce a wide
variety of handwoven pieces of clothing and art, often giving them as
gifts to family and friends. Weaving not only allowed LuAnne to
express her creative side, it provided her with a whole family of friends
in the "Far Flung" weaving community.
LuAnne traveled widely around the world to places such as Europe,
Central America, Thailand, Turkey and Russia. She enjoyed gardening
and maintained her own Greenhouse and prairie and was a member of
the original Wild Ones of Milwaukee. She spent the last 11 years as a
resident at Tudor Oaks Senior Living Community in Muskego. She
volunteered for many organizations such as UNICEF, Indochinese
Learning Center, and The Indian Community School. She was involved
in Cuban relief efforts, was a member of Women for Women
International, and was a longtime member of Central Wisconsin United
Methodist Church.
