Toth , Louise J. "Sis" February 19, 2010, age 84 years. Preceded in death by husband John in 1994. Survived by children Christopher (Marcia), James (Karen Johnson), Janine (Joe Strano), grandchildren Adam (Ashley), Megan Patel (Amrish), Jared, dear friend "sister" Helen Att Matzke, and devoted companion cat, Bailey . Valedictoran , South Milwaukee High School class of '43, Louise graduated with honors from Mt. Sinai Nursing School during WWII. Her nursing career spanned many years from beginning as a surgical nurse to retiring from the Cudahy Health Department as a community health and school nurse. For over 45 years she and her husband John, a square dance caller, were instructors in the Milwaukee area and leaders in the activity nationally.
Over the last 15 years Louise volunteered with the Wisconsin AARP and served in several local and statewide leadership roles, often putting a human face on issues like Eldercare by meeting with state representatives and helping organize and inform other seniors. She was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church in South Milwaukee.
Louise loved reading, singing, and camping, especially with her grandchildren. Always available for a good talk and a good laugh, she inspired others by continuing to find meaning and purpose in her life, even as her physical limitations increased.
The family extends a special thanks to her neighbors and her home care team Terry, Patty, Diane and Laura. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Milwaukee Public Library or the Zilber Family Hospice in her name.
A memorial celebration will be held on Sun., Feb. 28, 2010 at the funeral home from 1-3 PM with a memorial service at 3:00.
