Obituary

Kuczynski, LeRoy L. CW4, US ARMY (Ret.) Born to eternal life on Friday, September 30, 2011, age 85 years. Beloved husband of the late Mary "Betty" (nee Berns). Loving father of Susan, Jack and Jeff (Jill) Kuczynski. Proud grandpa of Brian, Katie, Jordan and Jaycie. Dear brother of Walter (Lynn) Kuczynski. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Private services were held. Military honors and burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA will be held at a later date. LeRoy was born March 12, 1926 in Milwaukee. His family moved to Abrams, WI He graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1944.He enlisted in the U.S. Army and attended basic training at Ft. McClellan, AL. He saw action in the European theatre with the 4th Armored Division of General Patton's 3rd Army. He served during the occupation of Germany after VE Day. Honorably discharged in 1946, he worked as a telephone lineman 1947-1948 before joining the Wisconsin Army National Guard.. In a long and successful career, LeRoy advanced through the enlisted ranks before becoming a Warrant Officer. He served in a variety of positions including artillery, air defense artillery, here in Wisconsin during the Korea and Vietnam eras; food service, maintenance, administration and safety posts for Army National Guard units. LeRoy's schooling and service took him to many places; including Ft Bliss, TX, Ft. Lee, VA, Ft. Rucker, AL, Ft. McCoy, WI and Ft. Meade, MD. CW4 Kuczynski's career culminated in a five years assignment as an advisor on National Guard matters at the Pentagon. When LeRoy retired in March 1988, he was one of the last WWII veterans still on active duty, after more than 42 years of service. Among his many awards and decorations, include the Bronze Star (for Valor), the Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC) and the Legion of Merit. After retirement, he was active with the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the VFW. LeRoy and Betty were married for more than 49 years and had 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
