Milwaukee – Age 85. On Sunday, September 6, 2020, Leon found peace and entered into the joy of the Lord. Beloved husband of Rachael (nee Romanowski) for 62 years. He is preceded by his parents Gordon and Clara Culver. Loving father of Dan (Sheila), Bill (Karen Yamamoto), Marie (Steve) Koszuta, Thomas, Cheryl (Chris) Culver-Gensler, Pegge (Dave) Sytkowski, Chris (Kelly), Kathy (Ernie) Le Blanc and Jane (Jouni) Salo. Proud grandfather of David Sytkowski, Aubrey (Ethan) Rosing, Aaron (Kaly) Gensler, Sam (Emily Crowe) Culver, Dominic Culver, Joonas (Tuuli) Salo, Lauren Koszuta, Danielle Culver, Julius Salo, Nathan Koszuta, Matthew Koszuta, Evan Rivas, Ben Culver, Kiyoshi Yamamoto, Caeleb Gensler, Keiko Yamamoto, Sophie Culver and Josh Culver. Cherished great-grandfather of Rory Gensler and Archer Rosing.
Brother of Vernon (Mary Ann) and Dennis Sr. (Janice), the late Marianne (the late Jerome) Kleczka, the late Richard (Kay). Brother-in-law of the late Rosalie (the late Jim) Bleecker, Rita (the late Bernie) Pleiss, the late Roman (Donna) Romanowski and Ruth (the late Robert) Jasinski. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Leon proudly served his country for 32 years with the Wisconsin Air National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel and flight navigator in 1985. In 1962 he participated in Operation Dominic at Christmas Island in the South Pacific, flying through the mushroom cloud to collect radioactive samples.
He worked as a manufacturing engineer for 20 years at Geo. J. Meyer Manufacturing Co., other manufacturing industries and retiring from Oilgear.
Leon was a devout Catholic and longtime member of the Basilica of St. Josaphat where he volunteered with the St. Vincent DePaul Society and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 13583. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Bishop Henni Assembly 1196. He also volunteered extensively with the Boy Scout Troop 121.
