Obituary

Leah C. Leyrer, 1925-2020 Leah Corinne Seidensticker was born on February 28, 1925, to Pastor Walter and Olga (Hrbacek) Seidensticker at Lawton, Oklahoma. On June 16, 2020 at the age of 95 years and almost four months, her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior from sin was converted to a crown of eternal life when He called her home to himself. The third of six children (five girls and a boy), Leah became a child of God through holy baptism as an infant. During her elementary school years, her family moved from Oklahoma to Ashippun, WI (Dodge County) when her father followed a call to pastor St. John's Lutheran Church there. Under her father's instruction, she was confirmed in the Christian faith in her early teens. For high school, Leah boarded in Milwaukee, WI and attended Lutheran High School from which she was graduated in 1942. While working in Milwaukee, Leah met seminary student Carl S. Leyrer whom she married on August 19, 1945. Upon his graduation from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, the couple was assigned to start a congregation at Big Bend, WI soon known as Christ Lutheran Church. For well over 40 years, Leah distinguished herself as the consummate pastor's wife during her husband's tenure at a variety of ministries, the longest of which to St. Lucas Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, from 1968 to 1989 where Leah retained membership. Often her husband referred to her as his greatest earthly support and praised God for her Christ-like demeanor and the selfless way she always embraced his ministry as her own. Carl and Leah were blessed with seven children, all of whom survive her: Sue (Pastor Forrest) Bivens, Pastor Carl (Connie), Virginia (Ronald) Mortenson, Pastor Joel (Lorna), Philip (Beth), Pastor Peter (Tamara), Pastor Daniel (Leah). Her children remember her for her loving concern, her readiness to put their needs ahead of her own, her subtle wit, and her quiet wisdom upon which they still reflect and often quote. She is also survived by one sister, Adele, and her brother, Stephen. In addition, 27 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren with another due in August cherish memories of her and/or bear her Christian influence in direct and indirect ways as do a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Leah's victory celebration service is Saturday, June 20, 2020, 11:00 AM at St. Lucas Lutheran Church, 2605 S. Kinnickinnic Avenue, Bay View, with visitation from 9:00 until 11:00 AM. A private interment takes place on Monday, June 22, at Woodlawn Cemetery.
