Our dear Dad, Lawrence John Schipper, Sr., passed away on December 10 in Voorhees, NJ. Larry was born October 6, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and had fond memories of his childhood in the Bay View neighborhood and at Potter's Lake.
He was the son of William Anton Schipper and Ann Catherine (Oberbrunner) Schipper. His siblings, William and Susan, predeceased him. After graduating Marquette University in 1953, Larry married the love of his life, Patricia Teresa Bunce, and celebrated 62 years of marriage before she passed away in 2015. They raised six children — William, Patrick (Susan), Mary Davis (Bruce), Lawrence Jr., Leslie Weller (Paul) and Katherine — mostly in Moorestown, NJ. Larry and Pat later moved to Carmel, IN, Sudbury, MA, Mount Laurel, NJ and Palm City, FL.
Larry was a brilliant engineer, beginning his illustrious career with BendixCorp. He later excelled at running various businesses for RCA (now Lockheed), retiring from Raytheon in Boston, followed by consulting for Lockheed and the Navy. He was a pioneer of RCA's Aegis weapons program. Working with NATO and the Navy, Larry and Pat traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and the Middle East, and lived for a time with their kids on the island of Kwajalein, where he learned to SCUBA and became an avid sailor. In his 40s, he bought a sailboat and spent many happy days sailing the Chesapeake aboard the "Dearheart" with family and friends. Larry was blessed with many dear friends — his RCA buddies, the Kwaj group, and those he met during later life in Florida and at The Evergreens in Moorestown. In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren Vanessa Wilson, Maxwell Schipper, Audrey and Nicholas Weller, William Sharp, Christi Brown, and great grandson Colin Larsen, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Dad will be sorely missed.
