LEMMER, KENNETH RAY
Friday, July 31, 2009 at age 82. Beloved husband of Joan (nee Soderberg). Dear father of Janice Zastrow, loving grandfather of Ken (Heather) Zastrow and Anna (Matthew) Koenig. Special great-grandfather of Logan Ray and Gavin Ray. Further survived by other family members and numerous friends.
Ken was a graduate of Bay View High School where he won the prestigious "W" Award for athletic achievement. At Milwaukee State Teacher's College (now UW-M), he was a four-year three sport letterman in cross country, track and basketball and was later elected to the UW-M Athletic Hall of Fame and the All Century Basketball Team.
Following service to his country as an Army medic in Germany during World War II, he returned to Milwaukee where he was recruited to play basketball for Allen Bradley, a member of the National Industrial League, later becoming the corporation's Athletic Director. He was a 32ND Degree Mason at Independence Lodge and enjoyed coaching softball for Job's Daughters and basketball for DeMolay teams.
In retirement he was groundskeeper and a life member of the Hickory Hills Country Club, Chilton, WI. Ken was happiest when surrounded by his wife and family at their Lake Winnebago home, fishing off the pier with his grandson and enthusiastically following the activities of his grandchildren and sports of all kinds.
He will always be the cherished champion of his wife, daughter Janice and grandchildren Ken and Anna.
A memorial visitation is planned for FRI AUG. 7th at the funeral home from 10 AM-12 NOON. Masonic services under the auspices of the Independence Lodge No. 80 F&AM will follow at noon and conclude with full military honors. A celebration of life will be held on August 15th at Central House in Chilton, WI located at 321 E. Main St. from noon to 4:00 p.m.
