Katie grew up in Milwaukee and attended St. John's Cathedral High School. After many Rosaries prayed with her sisters, Patrick Maher finally called. They married in 1955, and as Patrick pursued a flying career in the USAF, they raised a beautiful family of six children. A military wife and mom, she often cared for her children alone for weeks at a time. After Patrick retired from the USAF in 1972, they settled in Greenfield, WI, where the children finished their education in the local parochial school systems. Katie was very active in her Catholic parish and school activities for nearly 5 decades. Katie's home was open to all and there was always something cooking in her kitchen, with a song and story to go along. Her grandchildren will always remember having something homemade and delicious to eat. She shared her cooking skills and knowledge with them while encouraging them to be their best selves. Friends of the family often became regulars in her home, she has more than one "Fifth Son". A woman of faith and the heart of the Maher family, Katie shaped our spirituality by her tireless Christian example. She never hesitated to help people in need, some of them strangers, to come and share a meal or stay in her home. Her family will remember her days as a virtual majorette, twirling and usually catching her invisible baton to lead off the Great Circus Parade in Downtown Milwaukee. Her laughter and joy will never be forgotten.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Zartash Gul along with the entire team at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at St. Luke's Medical Center and the Aurora at Home Hospice Team for their tender care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Lutheran Home Foundation, 8220 Harwood Ave. Wauwatosa, WI 53213 would be appreciated.
"Kathleen enters into the joys and sorrows of others. She likes to sing alone." - Sr. Pancratia, Kathleen's kindergarten teacher.
