Karl Vern Zurheide, age 78 of Milwaukee passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023 after a twenty year battle with Parkinson's. Beloved husband of Melanie. Cherished father of Zada and Nick. Brother to Ann Carter (Jerry Gau ) and uncle to Nick Carter. Preceded in death by his parents Oddie and Hazel Zurheide, son Kristopher, grandson Kristopher, and in laws Joan and Daryl Pfaff. Further survived by additional relatives and friends.
Karl grew up in Fond du Lac Wisconsin. After High school Karl moved to Houston Texas to pursue a boxing career. He was a ranked Light Heavyweight boxer for fifteen years. Following his boxing career Karl obtained a Bachelor degree in Social Welfare from UW- Milwaukee. Karl was a probation and parole agent in Milwaukee for the Department of Corrections for thirty years.
Karl was most happy spending time with his family and friends. He loved to entertain, whether cooking a holiday meal or grilling at a Brewer game. Karl also enjoyed running along Lake Michigan, camping, road-tripping across the United States, horse racing, baseball, completing crossword puzzles and Bob Dylan. He was a long time volunteer with Del Porter at Ace Boxing Club, Kosciuszko Park, Milwaukee.
Karl's family would like to thank those who helped to care for him the past five years; St. Ann Center, St. Francis; Anita's Gardens of Grafton; and ProMedica Hospice of Milwaukee.
Private services were held. A bench has been installed in honor of Karl along the South Shore Park portion of the Oak Leaf Trail by the Park People for Milwaukee County.
