Joyce H. Hogden (nee: Scalish), lifelong resident of Milwaukee, died peacefully at the age of 97 surrounded by family as the sun began to set on Sunday, October 31st. She was preceded in death by her parents Salvatore and Cecelia, her husband Donald, her sister Annie, her dear friend Floyd, and many other family and friends. She leaves behind her children Donna Wuttken (Gary), James Hogden (Ruth dec.), and Jacquelyn Block (Darrell Schroeder); her grandchildren William Wuttken, Robert Schroeder (Jamie Leidgen), and Natalie Schuster (Robert); her dear companion James Bolden; her sister Ruth Latus and brother John Persak, as well as three great grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews, and a number of good friends. Joyce had a vibrant and fulfilling life. She was a third generation working woman. During WWII Joyce served as a cryptographer in Washington D.C. One of the proudest moments of her life was standing in front of the White House shouting, "Oh Har-ry!" on VJ Day. When she returned to Milwaukee, she went to work at Gimbels department store in downtown Milwaukee where she proudly sold shirts and ties to businessmen, politicians, visiting celebrities, and movie stars such as "The Fonz". She maintained loyalty to her career through the acquisition of Gimbels by Marshall Field's until her retirement at the age of 74. Following her retirement, Joyce spent her golden years traveling, taking in arts and current events, and enjoying the company of her family and friends. Services will be held at Prasser Kleczka, 3275 S. Howell Ave. Milwaukee on Tuesday, November 9th. Visitation will be held from 10AM until the time of service at noon. Burial to follow at St. Adalbert's Cemetery.
