Jose found peace on Sunday, September 17, 2023, age 83 years. Loving father of Ivelesse Perez, Marta (Hector Gonzalez) Perez, Jose G. (Rosaura Medina Perez) Perez, Lisa Marie Perez and Lesley (Daniel) Jaycox. Cherished grandfather of 15 and great-grandfather of 14. Brother of Carmen Perez. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Charlie was born & raised in Mayaguez, PR. He was proud of his cultural roots and after moving to Milwaukee, visited and spent as much time as he could on the island. Early on, he was fascinated by cars and all things mechanical. At his first job, he learned how to work on motors and became a car enthusiast. He was especially fond of Volkswagens.

Moving to Milwaukee as a young adult, Charlie was drawn to local activism. He participated in many marches and sit-ins to support fair housing, access to education and equal rights for all. He eagerly engaged in political conversations and aspired to become a writer to share his views. He served the community as the executive director of the Spanish Speaking Council on Alcoholism and later as one of the 1st bilingual driving examiners for the State of WI's Department of Transportation.

Charlie's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss him and carry on his pride for his homeland and service to the community. Anyone that knew Charlie, knew why his favorite song was a Sinatra classic:
