Obituary

Jose Gutierrez (May 16, 1941 - January 25, 2022) has been born to his eternal life in heaven. Jose is reunited with his parents, Ernesto and Cecilia, siblings Jesus (Socorro), Eduardo (Raquel), Reynaldo, Erasmo, Antonia Higa, in-laws Antonio Medina, Luis (Carmen) Cerrillo, Maria de la Luz (Juan) Molina, Dolores (Jose) Gutierrez, Carmen (Jesus) Zamora, Dionicio Flores and Refugio Delgadillo, as well as with his son Sergio and daughter-in-law Denise. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Teresa and children Juan (Lori), Margarita, Enrique (Lisa), Mario (Jill), Ariel (Michelle), Leticia (David) Kenny, Quiana (Steve) Betchner, Maricruz (Bill) Patterson and Cristobal. He is further survived by siblings Maria Trinidad Medina, Claudia (Julio) Basurto, Enriqueta, several in-laws, 24 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Jose was known to many in Milwaukee's south side Hispanic community as the owner of Community Lock and Ferreteria. After coming to this country as a young adult and meeting and marrying Teresa, together they set out to raise a family. With ten children to care for, Jose had remarkable compassion for those newly immigrated to this country by taking in young families in need as they were starting a new life in this country. To many he will be remembered as "Don Jose" as a sign of respect for the compassion and generosity he showed those in need, even as he worked tirelessly to feed and care for his own family. A celebration of Jose's life will take place with a visitation on the evening of Tuesday, February 1st at Prasser-Kleczka Funeral Home (6080 S. 27th St.) from 4-7 pm (prayer service to follow) with mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, February 2nd at 11am at St. Vincent de Paul parish (2100 W. Mitchell St.) with procession to St Adalbert's cemetery immediately after mass. In consideration of health and safety all attendees are asked to wear masks. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Catholic education as Jose did with donations to Pius XI Catholic High School or St. Vincent de Paul parish.
