John F. Prendergast, Sr. of Oak Creek, Wisconsin took the hand of his heavenly father and passed into eternity in the early hours of Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the age of 84.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 11, 1938, he was the youngest of four sons born to Mary (McNicholas) and Edward Prendergast.
He earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Marquette University and worked for companies such as Bucyrus-Erie, General Electric, and Cheney before retiring at the age of 62. Additionally, during his career years, he taught classes on engineering at Milwaukee Area Technical College.
During his children's early years, John was a boy scout leader, a time remembered well by at least one son. But the majority of his volunteering was linked to his faith in God and his devotion to church, which was the only place to which he insisted on being on time. He was involved in the congregations of St. James and St. Alphonsus Catholic Churches for many years and he was especially connected to the Xavierian Missionaries to whom he supported, shared his home and volunteered his time.
John enjoyed tinkering and was motivated by new ideas and the prospect of developing things that could be useful and a benefit to others. He also enjoyed staying socially active and traveling with his wife in the years when they could and he was interested in his Irish heritage and compiling the history of his ancestors as well. But John enjoyed golf the most and even talked about getting out there to 'play a round' during his last few days on earth.
John was preceded in death by his parents and all three of his brothers, Richard, Jerry, and Joe Prendergast. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia (Quinlan) and his beloved children, John Jr. (Cindy), Kate Vassar (Mike), Brian (Kimberly), Dan (Kelli) and Mary Altieri. He is further survived by and was the proud grandfather of Andy (Cassie), Kyle Koszuta, Olivia (Pete), Erik, Ben (Caitlin), Riley Vannettie, Sam, Ben Lindberg, Jacob Lindberg, Molly, Brynn, Jonah and Rees, as well as great-grandchildren, Harper, Willow, Colton and Anela.
He loved his family dearly and taking care of and spending time with them was always very important to him. Any reason to gather as a family was a good reason and he enjoyed every opportunity. He will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. - A.A. Milne
