October 31, 1933 – December 9, 2025
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at the age of 92. He was the loving husband for 63 years to the late Arlene (nee Ackerman) . Loving dad of Peter (June), John, Jane (Jim), and Paul (Kim). Cherished grandpa of Mark (Kate), Spencer, Buchanan, Sam, and Max. Dear brother-in-law of Carol (the late Tom), Paul and Sue (Kevin). Further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John grew up on a farm in Medford, Wisconsin and moved to Milwaukee after earning his Bachelors Degree in the late 1950's. He met Arlene as a fellow member of Young Christian Workers and they were married in 1960. From 1968 to 1972, John served as Alderman to the 17th Ward in Bay View, and continued to work on redevelopment projects for the City of Milwaukee until his retirement in 1993. John was active in the community volunteering for the St. Josephat Basilica Food Pantry, many civic groups and his Parish. He had a lifelong love of gardening and bread baking. John always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, the Harbour Village Sheepshead, Bean-Bag Toss groups, and acting as an ambassador for new residents.
Visitation MONDAY, December 15, 2025 from 9:30 to 11 AM at St. Charles Borromeo, 3100 W. Parnell Ave. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Entombment to follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Hunger Task Force or De La Salle Blackfeet School are appreciated.
The family is grateful to the compassionate, wonderful staff at Harbour Village and Allay Hospice.
