88, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin went to meet his Lord Friday, May 27, 2016 at his residence with his loving wife Joan (nee Radtke) of 53 years at his side. Joel is survived by his daughters Jodi Ruth (Garrod Tyler), and Julie Florence (William J. Calteaux), his sister Ruth Julia (Shad Smith) and his brother Noel (the late Audrey). Joel was born April 8, 1928 to Julia (nee De Basque) and Morris Alonzo and was raised on their farmstead in Rochester, Michigan. Joel was the fifth of nine children. He is predeceased by his brother Steve (Barbara), his brother Lee (Joy), his sister Ruth, his sister Dorothy (Bob Schmidt), his sister Elizabeth, and his brother Leso (the late Jane).
As a young man, Joe saw his older brothers enlist in the army during WWII and wanted to serve his country as well. Too young to enlist, he altered the information on his birth certificate and joined the Merchant Marines until it was discovered that he was underage. He returned to service during the Korean War, where he received his electrical training and discovered a talent for baseball with aspirations of going pro. After the war Joe was on his way to California and stopped in Wisconsin to visit an old army buddy. He met Joan and settled in Bay View. They raised two daughters and started their family business, Teleview Electronics. The business grew to three stores: Milwaukee, St. Francis and West Allis. Joe enjoyed being in business, installing TV Antennas and serving the community. He was a member of AVB, BBB, and the Bay View Business Association. He was honored to receive "Business of the Year" in St. Francis. He never made it to the pros as a baseball player but he was an avid golfer and member of the Grant Park Golf Club, where he won many trophies and made many good friends. In 2007, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and closed his business. After that he volunteered at the Basilica of St. Josaphat as an "English as a Second Language" instructor until he could no longer do it. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Joe's family is grateful to God and Horizon Home Health Care for everything they did to assist him to live comfortably at home.
