Preceded in death by her parents, Primo and Elizabeth (Betty) Sorcinelli, her sister Carol Sorcinelli, her ex-husband and soul mate Alphonse Walek and her first born child Cheryl "Cheryl Ann" Walek. Survived by her children Renee Walek, Dean Walek, Ross (Dawn) Walek, Stacy (Mark) Wilson. Grandchildren Gavyn and Corbyn Wilson, Alison and Kaitlyn Walek, Nicholas and Benjamin Lisowski, and Izabella and Sophia Walek. Further survived by extended family and friends.
Mom was spirited, fun, loving, kind and appreciative. Known to some for her colorful apparel and lighted shoes. She brought laughter and joy to every gathering. Mom could see the humor in life and shared it with everyone around her. She had quick wit and an endless supply of jokes that could brighten anyone's day. She was the hostess with the mostess who had exceptional mixology talent.
Mom had a gift for conversation, sometimes opinionated, but we all have those. She could strike up a conversation with anyone turning strangers into friends.
Mom had an undeniable likeness for things fast and liked fast things, like the thrill of a zip line. Bored easily, she was always on the go. So these past few years have been exceptionally difficult. Patience...what is that? Not Mom's style. Maybe a little? Nah! Always ready for the next adventure.
Mom liked her cars, from her 1956 Red and White Chevy convertible, to a 1967 Corvette Stingray, a Ford Falcon, Cadillac, VW Bus, a Fiat X19 and the original Toyota Supra. There were others too, but not as many as the places that she lived, must have been that Hungarian bloodline. Mom was also proud of her Italian Heritage. She enjoyed family get-togethers. Her favorite and most simplest of meals was sharing a delicious plate of spaghetti and meat 'a' balls with an Italian accent, not meatballs, but meat 'a' balls.
This was a lady that you never made a bet with. If mom was willing to bet you, then she already knew that she won the bet. Many learned that lesson the hard way.
Mom shared her love of playing games. The first game you learned was UNO, then Crazy 8's, Kings Corner, 21, 31, Casino, Cribbage, Farkle, Yahtzee, Backgammon, Solitaire, Sheeps Head to name just a few...
Mom will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her sassiness, her boundless love and those multiple daily phone calls that will be forever cherished. Though her voice may no longer fill our days, her spirit will live on in our hearts, reminding us to embrace life with humor, love and a sprinkle of boldness.
A message left to her children, "I love all of you and I am very glad that I had you. You children are my one and only great accomplishment in life."
A Celebration of our mom's life, Joanne, will be held Saturday, May 17th, 2025 at Castillo's Restaurant, 5656 S. Packard Avene, Cudahy. Arrival time is 3:00 pm, buffet dinner will be served at 4:00 pm. We will honor her humor, love for life and the memories that she gave us.
