Obituary

James went to rest with the Lord on August 5th, 2021, at the age of 80. Joining his deceased parents, Jake and Opal (nee Paine), brothers Bob and Dick and his sister-in-law Kim. Cherished husband and best friend of his wife Rosemarie (nee Modjeska) for 30 years. Caring father to his children Wesley (Laurie) Vokes, the late Jeffrey, Kristine (Patrick) Delaney, Jeanette (Joe) Maneval. Adored 'Dad' to Thomas and Angie Bednarski and Annemarie and Rich Wood. The Grandpa with candy and Cheez-its in his pocket to Cooper, Christian, Carter, Penelope, and Corin Wood. Survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Karla Vokes, Gary and Betty Vokes, Ron and Lynn Vokes; also numerous nephews and nieces, their spouses, and children. He asked to be remembered with love and kindness by Elizabeth Karras and her family, and Jill Vokes. Further survived his in-laws Kathleen and Wayne Keller, Marsha and Robert Peters, and Bruce and Cheryl Modjeska; and their families. Born in Charles City, Iowa, Jim's family moved between Iowa and Wisconsin through most of his youth settling in Cudahy just as Jim started high school. He was a proud graduate of the Cudahy class of 1960. Jim took time to work at Ladish with his family before joining the U.S. Army in 1962. He came home in 1965 and returned to Ladish where he worked for nearly 40 years. He was most proud of his 30 years as a union officer. He treasured the years of involvement with his children's activities at St. Adalbert Parish in South Milwaukee and his support of the Challenger Marching Band. After meeting Rosemarie in 1988, he volunteered at St. Adalbert in Milwaukee as an usher, BINGO worker, and wood crafter for the Parish festival. He also loved sharing his decorative wood pieces as gifts with family. Jim and Rosemarie were married in 1990. Throughout the 90's Jim enjoyed the family swimming pool, his best buddy Staszu, and getting out of the city to Arrowhead Campground. After retirement, he enjoyed cheering on his Grandchildren and watching the Bucks take home the title. Both Jim and Rosemarie have been thankful for the outstanding doctor who have cared for Jim, especially these last couple of years. Visitation at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, 3100 W. Parnell Avenue, Milwaukee on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow Forest Hill Memorial Park.
