Passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2023 surrounded by his family in the home he built. Age 94 years. Devoted and loving husband for 64 years of Marianne (nee Kaja). Loving father of the late Charles (Cheryl) Herriges, Jane (Michael) Stratton, Jennifer Herriges (Doug Fischer), Christopher (Barb) Herriges, Juliann (Mark) Joerres and Josette (Trevor) O'Neil. Cherished grandpa of Dorian (Matt) Medrow, Robert (Jessica) Herriges and Hailey (Michael) Barsch; Zachary (Damji) Stratton, Elijah Stratton and Madeline Stratton; Spencer Fischer; Gina Herriges and Alexander Herriges; Nathan Joerres, Nicole (Michael) Matthiesen, Kyle (Titi) Joerres and David Joerres; Wren O'Neil and Levi O'Neil. Adored great-grandfather of Paige, Hunter, Silas and Rory Medrow; Emmett and Jude Herriges; Etta and Charlie Barsch; Wyatt and Otto Matthiesen; Jet Joerres.

Dear brother of Estelle (the late Conrad) Rawski, Carol (Lloyd) Barnes and Thomas (Nora) Herriges. He is preceded in death by his siblings Jerry (the late Mildred) Herriges, Urban (the late Dolores) Herriges, Dolores (the late Eugene) Rudolf, Ralph (the late Vanda) Herriges, Phyllis (the late Robert) Rock, his twin sister Monica (the late Tom) Pieczynski, Paul (the late Dolores) Herriges, Claude (Christel) Herriges, John (the late Kathleen) Herriges, Mary Carmen (the late Kenneth) Willms, Ann (the late Norb) Weiler, Jean (the late Bud) Reitcheck, and Louise (the late Donald) Gresbach. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Jim was born and raised in the Town of Lake. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. Upon returning home he continued to work in the family business, Phil Herriges Inc., a home building and remodeling firm located in Milwaukee. He eventually went on to become the co-owner and general contractor.

He was a HAM radio operator (WB9RSK), and a member and president of the former Holy Name Society at St. Veronica Church. Jim was a proud member of Milwaukee Metropolitan Builders Association. In 2021 he received his honorary high school diploma from Bradley Tech High School (formerly Boy's Tech High School).

In addition to passing down his beautiful, trademark smile to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jim's lasting legacy can be found stepping on the sidewalks stamped with his company's name throughout the Milwaukee area and seeing the many homes he built and remodeled.

Jim will be remembered as a friend to all. Offering a beer or drink to anyone who graced his doorstep or sat by his pool.

His family would like to thank all the caregivers who provided compassionate and loving care over the last 19 months. A special thank you to the staff at VITAS Home Health Hospice.

Visitation at the Funeral Home on Sunday, April 16, 2023 from 4-7 PM. Prayer and Eulogy Service at 7 PM. Visitation also Monday, April 17 from 10-11 AM at St. Veronica Church, 4001 S. Whitnall Ave., Milwaukee. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Interment Tuesday, April 18 at 1 PM at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, WI.
