IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James G.
Dix
February 24, 1933 – December 4, 2022
James (Jim) George Dix, beloved husband, father of six, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born to eternal life on December 4, 2022, aged 89. Jim built a legacy of love through his devotion to home, faith, family, and creative pursuits. He was always ready with a helping hand or helpful suggestion for those who knew him.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Jim was the third of six children. After graduating from Don Bosco High School in 1951, he began a career with Tri-Clover Manufacturing in Cudahy, which was later acquired by the Ladish Company. In 1955, Jim married the love of his life, Rita Motz. They raised six children together in the Tippecanoe neighborhood of Milwaukee, and he worked at Ladish as an estimator until his retirement in 1995.
Jim was a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed travel, a good hike, fishing, canoeing, and camping every summer with his family. He adored spending time with his children and grandchildren and showing them the wonders of nature. In the summer months, he also tended an ever-expanding home garden and volunteered with his family to help physically disabled children at Team Up! for Fun Day Camp. Jim was also a golfer and an avid mini-golfer who took great pride and enjoyment in outscoring his family members, especially his wife. At the Grant Park Golf Course in 1961, he joined the Walter Hagen "Hole-in-One-Club" on the seventeenth hole.
His Catholic faith was an essential aspect of Jim's life. He was a faithful member of St. Veronica's Parish for more than 60 years and enjoyed playing in the church's dart ball league. In later life, Jim also enjoyed woodcarving with the Wilson Park Wood Carvers and exhibited at many of their shows. He especially enjoyed fashioning beautiful nature-inspired wooden picture and mirror frames, seasonal decorations, and religious items. As a ministry, Jim proudly carved and distributed more than 1,000 "Clinging Crosses" as prayer aids, and also carved a cross for Pope Pius X parish in Wauwatosa in honor of their sister parish, Santa Maria, in Guatemala. He also lent his wood carving talents to a project on display at the Discovery Museum in downtown Milwaukee and delighted his children and grandchildren with original carvings to commemorate life events like Christenings, birthdays, high school and college graduations, and weddings.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Rita; his children Mark (Elke) Dix, Mary (Steve) Hammer, Michael (Barb) Dix, Peter (Karen) Dix, Paul (Doris) Dix, and Anne (Larry) Pleva; his grandchildren, Sara (Alan) Stys, Megan (Jake) Voelker, Christine (Jason) Moriarity, Patrick, Erica, Adam, Monica, Marie, Martha, and Joel Dix; and his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Alec (Katie), Lydia, Sydney, and Lucy Stys; and Alexander Moriarity. He is also survived by siblings Mary M. Dix (Sr. Benilda, SSND), Bro. Richard Dix, SM, Ann (Gene) Haderer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
