Born to Eternal Life on August 25, 2018 at the age of 94. Devoted husband of the late Eleanor Malone. Loving father of James, Thomas (Cheryl), Veronica (Jeffrey) Nicla and the late Christopher. Harry will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, great grandchild, and many family and friends.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he and Eleanor raised their family in Glen Head, New York. His profession as a chemical engineer led them to Chicago, Illinois and then to Memphis, Tennessee. Harry retired from the United States Navy Reserve as a Lieutenant Commander and flew a TBF Avenger during WWII. He enjoyed swimming and bicycle riding and competed in marathons, triathlons, and the Senior Olympics. His bike rides included trips around Lake Michigan and a journey from Memphis to Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Strong believers in the sanctity of human life, Harry and Ellie opened their home to pregnant women who chose to give birth but needed a loving family setting to achieve that goal. Harry was a faithful servant to the Lord and has now been sent to the Father's loving arms.
A wake and prayer service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the CLEMENT MANOR HEALTH CENTER CHAPEL, 3939 South 92nd Street, Greenfield.
Visitation on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Saint Louis Parish, 203 South White Station Road, MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
Memorials for Harry may be directed to Birthright of Memphis. A special thanks to everyone who cared for Harry at Clement Manor. Their compassion and professionalism was above and beyond what we could have ever hoped for. SALVE REGINA
