Age 85, died August 15, 2002. Born July 3, 1917, in Wibaux, MT, Harry was a reporter and editor for the Milwaukee Journal from 1947 to retirement in 1981. Specializing in writing on scientific and medical subjects, he was particularly known for his coverage of the NASA space program, the Milwaukee Public Museum and the funerals of John F. and Robert F. Kennedy. Harry began a life-long love of sailing as a Boy Scout and then a Sea Scout while growing up in Downers Grove, IL, the son of the late Edward M. and Gladys (Spear) Pease. He achieved Silver Eagle Scout status. After receiving a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri (Sigma Chi and Kappa Tau Alpha), Harry attended the Naval Officer's Training School at Columbia University in New York City and was a commissioned officer in the Naval Reserves. He married his college sweetheart and soul mate, June Bumann, December 5, 1942, while serving in the Navy in WWII. He commanded a sub-chaser in the Gulf of Mexico, then was Executive Officer of a destroyer escort in the North Atlantic, the South Pacific, and in the Golf of Tokyo at war's end. He retired from the Navy a full Lieutenant. He continued his passion for the sea as a long-time member of South Shore Yacht Club and served as Secretary of the Board of Directors. He was a member of the Geological and Astronomical Societies, a volunteer at the Milwaukee Public Museum, recorded books for the Center for the Visually Handicapped and read news for WYMS. He was very active in Boy Scout Troop 55 in Brookfield as well as in other church and community organizations. Harry and June retired to Corpus Christi and Portland, TX, in 1983 where he continued his vast interests as President of the Auxiliary Board of the Corpus Christi Museum of Natural History, Chairman of the Portland Public Library Board and an elder of the South Shore Christian church. Harry lived a rich, full life. He traveled the world in the Navy and for the Journal, served his community and was a tower of strength for his family. He will be dearly missed by his survivors: Dear and beloved husband of June Bumann Pease; Father of Margaret Jill (Ronald) Johnson, Mitchell Pease, James (Susie Bauer) Pease and Thomas (Debra) Pease; Brother of Virginia (Philip) Golvedare; Grandfather of Stephanie (Dale) Jacobs, Jennifer (Glynn) Ryan, Elizabeth (Scott) Miller, Wade (Stephanie) Johnson, Ethan, Karen and Nicole Pease and 10 great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their thanks to St. Luke's Hospital for patience and understanding. Visitation is at the Funeral home Tuesday, August 20th at 5 PM followed by a funeral service at 7 PM.
