Hans was an artist in wood, born on Pellworm, an island in the North Sea his family moved to Husum, Germany when he was 5 years old. He was then drafted into the German war when he was 16, and came to the United States in 1951 and joined the army here. After serving in the army, Hans started his own boat building business and rebuilt and raced the beautiful R-boat, Zyklon.
