IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geraldine R.
Mitchell
September 16, 1939 – March 28, 2024
Born to eternal life March 28,2024 at the age of 84 years after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Preceded in death by her parents, Orlando Sr. & Desolyn Lucchesi, brother Orlando Jr, in-laws Christopher and Estelle, sister-in-law Diane Kaye (Ron), and husband Michael Mitchell Sr.
Survived by son Michael Mitchell (Lora), daughter Beth Widenski (Dean), Grandchildren Peter, Michael, & Katie Mitchell, & Erin Barnes (Joshua). Further survived by other relatives and friends.
Geraldine was of Italian descent, born and raised in the Milwaukee neighborhood of Bay View. She attended Immaculate Conception grade school, Bay View High School, and a year at Marquette University before she married Michael Mitchell, her husband of 47 years in 1960.
For 6 years Geri raised her children until they were school age after which she embarked on a 30+ year career working for Wisconsin Bell. During her tenure she made many good friends some of which she still has today. Jane Mendelblatt, Marie Mittag, Peggy Pitts, just to name a few.
After her husband passed in 2007, Geri went to work at the Educators Credit Union on Loomis Road until she "re-retired" in 2015. After which, Geri sold the family home on 35th street and moved to Duluth, MN to live with her daughter Beth and son-in-law Dean Widenski, until her passing.
While in Duluth, Geri was like a second mom to many of Beth and Dean's friends, Eric & Penny, Kim & Dave, Karen & special friend Ole.
Geri had several lifelong friends that she has joined in heaven. Her best friend from childhood was Marlene Martell (nee Cialdini). Marlene's husband John along with Geri and Mike Sr. went on many wonderful vacations, both as couples and as families. They, along with Mary Ann & Tom Wooldridge spent many a News Year Eve together.
Another lifelong friend was Jill Schamberger (nee Jarzyna). Many Saturday afternoons were spent with Jerry and Jill Schamberger at their home in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.
On her visits to Milwaukee from Duluth, Geri often stayed with her brother-in-law Craig Mitchell & his wife Christine. She very much appreciated their hospitality and kinship.
Geri also enjoyed her phone calls from family and friends including: nephew Tony Lucchesi, sister-in-law Pat Lucchesi, niece Debbi Staszak, good friend and travel companion Marie Mittag, brother-in-law Ron Kaye, Craig, Cory, & Christine Mitchell, Fred Goedland, John Martell, Rose Wojcinski, Jane, Jill and others.
Geri loved her Lord and enjoyed serving at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church both in the choir, and on the decorating teams.
Geri loved her family and friends. She was independent woman who liked to travel, sun bath, enjoy a good meal and a dessert, read a good book, sing, converse, and gamble.
Geri lived a good life while making a better life for her family. Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
