Obituary

Stollenwerk, George F. Wednesday, July 22, 2009 age 85 years. Beloved husband of the late Susan. Cherished father of Kenneth (Katherine) and Gail Stollenwerk. Loving brother of Ervin and the late Edwin Stollenwerk. Dear brother-in-law of Irene Banachowicz. Special cousin of Marilyn Frank. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends. The family would like to acknowledge neighbors Dave and Elaine Konkol, and Beata Hasiuk and family for their friendship and caring to George. George was born on June 18, 1924 in South Milwaukee to George and Helen Stollenwerk. He graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1942 where he excelled in football, basketball, track and baseball. It was because of his athletic ability that he enjoyed good health for most of his life. After serving his country in the U.S. Army, between 1943 and 1946 and serving two campaigns in Europe, George worked for Bucyrus-Erie Co, until he joined the Cudahy Police Department where he proudly served as a police officer from 1958 until 1972, and then as Sergeant from l972 until 1987, when he retired after 28 years of service. An avid bowler for over 60 years, he was still bowling on various leagues until 84 years old. In his retirement he also enjoyed golf, gardening, casino bus trips, listening to polka music and attending church and lakefront festivals. For the last 15 years he was a fan of Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra. George and his daughter followed the band to various locations in the Midwest. He particularly enjoyed annual trips to Frankenmuth, Michigan for their week long musicfest. Special thanks to Jimmy Sturr for calling George during his brief stay in Zilber Hospice where Jimmy Sturr CD's and videos were played throughout his stay. Although George was in the last days of his life, the family believes George was aware of the music and the special phone call. In this age of fast medicine and impersonalized care, George's family would like to acknowledge those special physicians that provided exceptional care, compassion, kindness, and expertise, and were never to busy to return a phone call, or spend the necessary time for consultations: Dr. Mitchell Pincus; Dr. David Ashpole and his PA Kylie Braam; Dr. William Deshur; Dr. Jonathan Treisman; and Dr. James Boblin. Also thanks to Dr. Ragalie and the staff at Zilber Family Hospice, who provided the family and George, during his brief stay, with an environment of compassion, dignity and respect through the last stages of life. The family also thanks Dr. Garland Yarborough and his office staff for the many years of primary care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aurora VNA Zilber Family Hospice, 1155 N. Honey Creek Pkwy. Milwaukee, WI 53213. Visitation at the Funeral Home, SUNDAY, July 26, 2009 from 2-5 PM, where George's favorite music will be played. Funeral services at 5 PM. Entombment service Monday, 9:30 AM from Funeral Home to Forest Hill Memorial Park from committal prayers and military honors. PRASSER-KLECZKA BAY VIEW CHAPEL 3275 So. Howell Ave. 414-483-2322
