Metten, George E. Died November 23, 2014. Age 90 years. George is survived by his wife Cay (Catherine Wilson). His daughter Meri and her husband Peter Misko. Proud "Papa" of Draza, Chezare, Wendy, Torin, Autumn, Thor and Lisa. Great Grandpa of Mariah, Madison, Ziva, Taya and Lana. He is also survived by one brother Eugene "Bugs" Metten, sister in law Lin (James) Froehlke, niece Janet (Gary) Suokko, nephew David (Sandy) Metten and 5 great nieces, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his niece/God daughter Linda (Dino) Gallo. Special friend of Cherie and Tom Ferraro.
George went to St. Marks Grade School in Kenosha, St. Catherine's High in Racine, and then graduated in 1942 from Kenosha High School. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy and served in Naval Intelligence during World War II. Upon returning, he went to Marquette University and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He began his retail career with JCPenney in Kenosha in 1950 and was promoted to Sales and Merchandise manager in 1956 at the new Capital Court location in Milwaukee. From 1961 thru 1967, he managed the Mitchell Street location before joining and managing McCoy's Department Store in Waukesha from 1968 thru 1975. In 1975, he joined the TA Chapman Co. as operations manager and corporate buyer until it closed in 1987. The last 6 years of his career, he spent auditing accounts payable across the US and Canada until retiring in 1993.
Memorial Visitation WEDNESDAY, December 3, 2014 from 10AM-11AM at ST. MARYS CATHOLIC FAITH COMMUNITY, 9520 W. Forest Home Ave. Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Private inurnment at St. James Cemetery in Kenosha.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Family, which will be donated to the Franciscan Mission Association and the Greendale Senior Social Club, where George was a member since 1999 and played Sheepshead with his friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Lake Terrace and Hometown Hospice and Homecare for their care and kindness over the last 7 months.
