Obituary

Saturday, June 28, 2008 age 77 years, due to muscle debiliitaion caused by Parkinsonism. Born Oct. 3, 1930 in Bay View, he attended Humboldt Park School, Bay View High School and the Layton School of Art. He served as a Staff Sgt. in the Air Force Reserve and worked as a commercial artist, specializing in lettering and layout design. National accounts were Kimberly Clark, General Electric and Miller Brewing. George had a low keyed, quirky sense of humor, beautiful handwriting, was an excellent snow and water skier, enjoyed food especially desserts, had a unique style in clothes and loved building things. As a young man his father took him fishing and family vacation were spent on lakes in the area. He was fond of beagles, especially Queenie, who accompanied him everywhere. Later he and other bachelors rented cottages on Okauchee and Pewaukee Lake. He built his own boat from a kit and made (welded) many boat lifts. He took German classes at UWM and spent 4 weeks in Austria at a Berlitz school taught by Countess Esterhazy in her castle. He adored Austrian foods especially Marillenknodel , a warm apricot dumpling dessert. As a member of the Vagabond Ski Club, he built many sets for their Oktoberfest including the Jail, designed many of the covers for their monthly magazine and led ski trips to the Alps and Colorado. He married Amalia, a Spanish teacher with a German heritage, on December 21, 1974. Together they purchased many properties that they personally managed and kept in repair. George also remodeled the various homes in which they lived. At their last one, on Moose Lake, he built the wooden railings down to the lake and did extensive landscaping including placing rocks for retaining walls. During school vacations, the couple enjoyed warm spots especially the Negril area in Jamaica. George was active on St. Lucas' Stewardship Committee and constructed many worship banners to hang in church. At Holy Trinity in Okauchee he was also on the same committee and designed and constructed many 4th of July Floats. The last six years were spent at Shorehaven Health and Rehabilitation Center and the Day Care Center there. At the beginning of his stay and up to the last year, he enlivened many Certified Nurse Assistants and other staff members with his unexpected comments. George was a "good eater" up to the last six months of his life. Survived by his wife and relatives and friends. A special thanks to the entire staff at the Nursing Home and Day Care Center who cared for him so lovingly. Survived by his wife and relatives and friends.
