(nee Larson) Born to this life on March 19, 1935 and born to eternal life on Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Age 78 years. Suddenly and without warning, Gail was taken from us on Christmas Eve. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. If you met her once, she was a friend for life.
After raising her six children and being "mother" to half the neighborhood (and then some) Gail embarked on a second career as a writer. With her husband Bob, she published the Washington Island Observer in Door County for 20 years. She was proud of the fact that it was the last independently owned small newspaper in the state, and she was honored to have served that community for so many years.
While president of Writers Ink, a freelance writer's group, her poems and children's stories appeared in numerous magazines, books and newspapers. She was also the family genealogist, discovering descendants dating back to the Mayflower and Charlemagne. This connection allowed her to become part of many groups, from the Oak Creek Historical Society to Daughters of the American Revolution. Gail truly was a Jane of All Trades: singer, quilter, soap maker, rosary maker, costume maker, baker of renowned Thanksgiving pies and Christmas cookies, and volunteer extraordinaire. She was all this and more. Gail leaves behind the love of her life Robert "Bob", her husband of 57 years; her children Ted (Sharon), Suzan (Paul), Tom (Kathy), Mitch (Tricia) and Gabrielle (Peter). She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Terri and her sister Lynn.
Also mourning her passing are her siblings Sally (the late Bob) McConnell and Paul (Bobbi) Larson; 23 grandchildren: Leah, Kellen, Laura, Emily; Tiffany (Harley), Justin (Kim), Jordan (Philippe), Alexandra, Griffin, Ryland, Hayley; Joel, Claire (Jake), Evan, Olivia, Grace; Mitchell, Gianna, Elias, Bennett; Neoma (Travis), Calvin and Miles; 10 great grandchildren: Cyrus; Isaak, Kylie; Eleanor; Benicio, Emilio, Gianluca; Ajax, Cyrus and Caissa, and an 11th great grandchild who will never get to meet her. A trail of lifelong friends are also left behind, especially her dear friend Diane Plugge.
A celebration of her life will take place at the Funeral Home Monday, December 30, 2013, 4:00-8:00 PM, prayer service at 7:00 PM. Funeral on Tuesday, 10:15 AM from the Funeral Home to THE BASILICA OF ST. JOSAPHAT for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gail's name to one of the many charities she supported.
