Obituary

At age 97, entered eternal life on Friday November 28, 2014 and rejoined her husband Willard, her sisters Margaret MacLean and Catherine Jeffers, her daughter Ann Troka and her son William Kneisler, and many dear friends. She is survived by her brother David MacLean (Jeanne) of Elkhorn WI, who continued to live on/work their childhood farmland on MacLean Rd (now designated a Century Farm, and actively run by their son Dan). Flora is also survived by her much loved son, Thomas; her adored grandsons Michael (Anne) Troka, Matthew (Deb) Kneisler, Andrew (Sarah) Kneisler, and Adam (Stephanie) Kneisler, and her very beloved great-grandchildren, Michael, Matteo, Marco, and Maximo Troka; Jillian Flora, William, and Ryan Kneisler; Emma and Cole Kneisler, and her 'newest', Benjamin Kneisler (who she was able to hug/hold two days after he was born a month ago in Illinois). Flora was a wonderful 'mother' to former daughter-in-laws Elaine Kneisler and Karen Gagliano, who love her to this day (and whose friends/family considered Flora to be their friend and 'grandma' as well!). The MacLean family tree is rounded out by her nieces Martha MacLean; Sherley MacLean; Sara Jeffers; Lucretia Jeffers (Steve Anderson) and their children Sarah and John, and her nephews Dan MacLean; Charlie Jeffers (Jackie). Flora so looked forward to the yearly August extended family reunions on the farm. Lady Flora MacLean Kneisler (formally 'titled' as she owns a bit of property in Scotland!) was a woman well ahead of her time. Graduating from Carroll College in 1935, she married her college sweetheart and supported him in his Navy career (for a time living in Japan). When he left the Navy and returned to Milwaukee (teaching at Audubon Middle School), Flora became involved in neighborhood activities, assumed active leadership roles in city/state Republican Party activities, cared for her husband and daughter through complications of chronic diabetes and kidney disease, and worked part-time in retail and original 'home-party' sales. As her family responsibilities eased, Flora became an active 'traveler', and enjoyed trips all over our country as well as trips to Austria and Poland (the latter only 6 months after she broke her hip and underwent a hip replacement at age 90); she loved all of her travels (esp the cruises and barge trips) and all of her traveling companions. Flora remained very healthy, independent and active until the last few months, continuing to make new friends (and enjoying recent visits by caregivers from the Aurora Visiting Nurses Home Hospice), to follow current events and in 'going out to dinner'. Her active lifestyle, phenomenal memory, and sense of humor astounded most everyone, and she will be missed tremendously. Visitation at the Funeral Home Friday, December 5, 2014, 8:30-10:30 AM. Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Burial to follow at Arlington Park Cemetery. Flora loved flowers, but would have requested memorials to Aurora Visiting Nurse Association Home Hospice, the Aurora Zilber Hospice residence, and/or the Wisconsin Kidney Disease Foundation.
