Obituary

Went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday February 28, 2021 to join his loving wife of 58 years, Julie who preceded him in death in 2014. Eldred was born to Alo and Marie Swanson on a farm in Wallace, Michigan on December 21, 1931. He attended grade schools in Wallace and Graduated from Stephenson High School in Stephenson, Michigan in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended and graduated from the Milwaukee Area Technical College with a degree in Diesel Engineering. On September 3, 1955 he married Julie Ann Clermont of Marinette, Wisconsin. After graduating from college he was employed at General Motors Delco Electronics Division in Milwaukee as Senior Associate Project Engineer. He worked in the Engineering Development lab, building, and testing the inertial guidance system for the space program, including the Apollo capsule that landed on the moon. During this time he also served as Third Ward Alderman and a member of the Plan Commission and Board of Public Works for the City of Franklin (Milwaukee County). He served as Congregation President and school board chairman of St Paul Lutheran Church in Franklin. He was awarded the Franklin City Man-of-the-Year by General Motors and the Franklin Jaycees. He served on the State of Wisconsin Emergency Planning Commission, served as local president and State Director of the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees). He later worked for AAA Environmental Industries as Project Engineer/ Vice President. During this time he also served on two State of Wisconsin Legislative Committees and as a state Notary Public. He finished his working career as Program Manager/Instructor at Lakeshore Technical College. He retired in 1993 and moved with his wife, Julie, to Wallace, Michigan where they were members of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Northland Lutheran Foundation Board and president of the Menominee Township Planning Commission. In 2013, Eldred and Julie moved back to Milwaukee to be near their family. Eldred was preceded in death by his wife Julie; his parents; his infant sister, Marie; and his brother Roland. He is survived by a sister Dorine Peterson of Marinette; daughters Jody (Robert) Farchione of Franksville, Wisconsin, Wendy (Jacques) Sampon of Bonita Springs, Florida, Terry (Steve) Westfahl of Brookfield, Wisconsin; and son Kevin (Debbie) Swanson of Oak Creek, Wisconsin. He is also survived by Seven grandchildren: Jason (Jessi) Sampon, Katie (Ryan) Koncki, Mark (Rachel) Farchione, Terry (Ben) Perales, Lindsey (Tim) Karol, Christopher Sampon, Elisabeth Bridges and thirteen great grandchildren: Lili, Kennedi, and Joshua, Logan, Gage and Ryker, Ellyanna and Callia, Vivienne and Daniel, Elsie and Frank, and Wolf. Eldred often spoke of being the richest man in the world because of being blessed with the most wonderful wife and family possible. He was also a strong believer that his life was guided by a "higher power" because of the positive directions it took. On October 24, 2015 Eldred was given the Military opportunity of a lifetime by being flown to Washington DC as a part of the "Stars and Stripes Honor Flight" and toured the War Memorials/Monuments. Eldred was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Oak Creek Wisconsin. Eldred will be dearly missed by many family members and friends. Due to Covid-19, private services will be held for the family. A Celebration of Eldred's life will be held at a future date.
